Energy efficiency programs can have a positive impact on energy affordability. However, income-eligible households may be more likely to live in housing with less-efficient appliances than higher income households. While impactful, programs that provide weatherization and energy efficiency upgrades are not sufficiently serving climate-impacted communities.
ADVOCACY
Energy Access
Achieving a just transition will require greater investment in energy efficiency upgrades that result in significant savings for income-eligible households.

Metrics
We're demanding equity metrics in energy efficiency programs.
Inclusion
We're building access for all energy-insecure households.
Invest
We pay community members in climate-impacted communities to lead program design.
Resources
We ask for increased funding for energy efficiency, health, and housing,
5%
of income-qualifying households
Energy-efficiency programs only served about 5% of income eligible households in 2019
13%
of electric and gas utility spending
Only 13% of electric and gas utility energy efficiency spending is spent on income eligible programs despite 27.5% of the population being income eligible
income-qualified households
Participation in energy efficiency programs is growing for income-eligible households (1.7 million in 2019 compared to 362,000 in 2015)
